# Dagger

> Dagger is a lightweight, mobile-first, end-to-end-encrypted IDE for running and controlling AI coding agents on your own machines from a phone, a tablet or another computer, made by Cutthroat Software. Dagger AI is its companion coding agent: the model runs on a hosted server, every tool the agent uses executes on your machine, and nothing runs against your files without your approval.

Dagger IDE has three parts. A small conductor program runs on a machine you own and exposes chosen folders. The conductor dials out to a relay, so the machine needs no public address, open port or VPN. The app, a web app you can install to a phone's home screen, connects to the same relay and gives you a file browser, a code editor, search, git history and a real persistent terminal on that machine. Traffic between the app and the conductor is sealed end to end with the Noise protocol; the relay only ever sees ciphertext. Adding a device needs a pairing key the relay never sees. Accounts support passkeys and TOTP two-factor authentication. Teams share single folders with per-member read, write or terminal permission. Terminals keep running when you close the tab, and the app notifies you when an agent needs an answer.

Dagger AI is driven from the `dagger-ai` terminal client (Linux and macOS), from any terminal inside the IDE, or from a browser chat in the IDE app. It has two modes: Lone Wolf, where one model does the work, and Pit Boss, where a strong model plans with you and orchestrates cheaper workers. It supports skills in Claude Code's SKILL.md format, agent definitions and hooks, MCP servers over streamable HTTP with OAuth, named projects, web search, printable documents, checkpoints and rollback, and server-side model routing across several model families. Dagger AI conversations pass through the relay and are stored with the conversation until the account is deleted; they are not end-to-end encrypted the way IDE traffic is.

Plans: Solo, Pro and Team for the IDE, and an AI-only plan. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial. Dagger AI usage is paid from prepaid credits bought in packs; one credit is one cent, credits do not expire. Current prices are shown in the app.
